Linux is a Great OS

I was a seasoned Windows follower until i tried Linux Mint, that already blown away my brain. I didn´t thought it could be better until i discovered Linux Mint MATE and decided to make it my primary OS. I have suddenly so much freedom and flexibility. I bought a old fashioned T530 Thinkpad, and with no issues switched to two large SSD´s, a mSATA for the OS and one for Data and could thinker the BIOS and System to my liking. It is amazing. Gaming required some more work to get it running but after switching off the build in NVIDIA Chip and run on custom settings, Anno 1404 runs like a dream. I’m here to learn more about everyday use, useful commands and Programs and just to share my experience.

Hi, @T530 and welcome to the Ubuntu MATE Community!

I didnt think a Thinkpad t530 had an NVIDIA chip - but that doesnt matter as long as you have got something thay works for you.

Anyway welcome to Linux - hope you enjoy your time here!

If you have any support questions about MATE desktop - be sure to mention your distribution, just in case it is relevant to people who want to offer help (but most of us are on Ubuntu MATE).

Here for a good overlook:
I disabled the NVIDIA NVS 5400M Chip in the BIOS so it doesn´t show up here. It´s in there, but it´s cold.

Yep you'd need the 390 series of driver to run that NVIDIA card. I've been able to run that with an older version of Debian + MATE on an older laptop of mine. Mint is probably not going to play nicely however with that driver.

Yes, there was a issue, Boot time was almost 16 Seconds with NVIDIA but after disabling it in the BIOS i got that down.

Startup finished in 3.429s (kernel) + 4.303s (userspace) = 7.733s
graphical.target reached after 4.018s in userspace.

I play games with the Intel Internal Graphics, works on low Settings pretty well.

The only Issue i had was with the Internal Bluetooth. It was 4.0, with not much Space between the Laptop and the Bluetooth device for stable connection.

Bluetooth: hci0: BCM20702A [ 7.476320] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM20702A1 (001.002.014) build 0000 [ 7.482171] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: firmware Patch file not found, tried: [ 7.482174] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: 'brcm/BCM20702A1-0a5c-21e6.hcd' [ 7.482175] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: 'brcm/BCM-0a5c-21e6.hcd' [ 7.536474] Bluetooth: MGMT ver 1.23

It was like this, but i disabled Internal Bluetooth and put on a external USB device, which solved the problem completely.

There is broadcom bt firmware, GitHub - winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware: Repository for various Broadcom Bluetooth firmware

The deb file is in: Release v12.0.1.1105_p4 · winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware · GitHub

Install it, reboot, test your bt.

I already got myself a neat little Nano USB Bluetooth Adapter with a way better Bluetooth Version, 5.1 if i know right. Going back to the Broadcom would be a downgrade. But thank you for the aid. :handshake:
