I would not dare to encrypt the whole home, I only had the ecryptfs-encrypted Private directory…
Anyway, I followed my steps 1-3, logged in and everything looked OK.
Then I logged out, copied the .ecryptfs and .Private directories from the backup, logged in and it just worked!
So I would say problem solved, thanks for the help
