Hi there. I’m a total newbie and have started off really badly in attempting to install Mate to my 2011 Macbook Pro. I wanted to delete everything on the Apple and just run Mate, and I seemed to have done this (from a DVD - the USB system wouldn’t work).
I then moved to update and install drivers and something went horribly wrong. Now I have to press the off button for ages to get the computer to turn off; and I can’t seem to boot it either. I can hear the first two chimes of the Apple operating system, but not the “dong” sound of the boot (and I’m figuring I shouldn’t be hearing the chimes, either). I am staring either at a black screen or a very pretty green and black vertical lines arrangement. Computer is completely bricked.
I tried booting from the computer’s old hard drive connected externally, but it won’t boot from that either.
Grateful for assistance. I am a total newbie and I’m stumped now. Thank you.
