Make stuff prefer symbolic links / symbolic program arguments instead of MATE utilities

A long name for a simple request; I keep having to edit stuff by hand because MATE utilities are preferred over “Generic” launcher utilities like xdg-open and any of the things assigned in /etc/alternatives.

This doesn’t mean that the native MATE utilities should be abolished completely, of course not. The presets of these generic launcher links and the software generic solutions like xdg-utilsxdg-open should prefer MATE utilities outright. But as it stands, MATE’s software is preferred over generics, when it should be available as a “Last resort” should a user’s preference not be available, and the first thing available for new users.

For newbies, instead of learning about these things, they’re under the idea that since programs prefer it, to get their preference they must remove the software the scripts included prefer, when in reality all they need to do is reconfigure it, but that is difficult with things like mate-menu when that prefers MATE utilities always.
