MATE 16.10 / Compiz / high xorg CPU time after 3-4 days

Hey guys,

I was curious if someone might be able to give me some tips to help trouble shoot an issue i’ve been having since i moved to MATE 16.10 from Ubuntu Desktop 14.04. Config is essentially the same, legacy Gnome desktop, compiz, NVIDIA drivers.

What i’m seeing is after 3-4 days, Xorg (lightDM) starts to run away and consume a good bit of CPU, enough to make the box slow. I’ll usually see 40-90% in glances.

facts about the config…

Mate 16.10
Compiz
NVIDIA Quardro 2000 - Using NVIDIA 375.66 additional driver found by OS, marked as “tested”

Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

After it peaks to such levels, what happens if you logout and log back in. So, not rebooting, just relogging? Does it drop back to normal levels?

I did just notice when I killed a virtualbox guest that xorg went back to normal. I’ll troubleshoot that avenue.
