Mate Help screen black?

hi using mate latest version with debian 12 bookworm. but when press F1 for help screen it only black screen, nothing? any help? thanks

The latest mate (1.28) is not yet ready for prime time. It still has some showstopper bugs. That is why even the latest version of Ubuntu-MATE is still on version 1.26
It also means that there is probably not much we can do for you because we don't have that version yet.

On the other hand, the "F1-help" is just as unhelpful as the MS-windows help so you're not missing out on anything :joy:

I have the same problem on Mate 1.26 (Although I am using Sparky instead of Ubuntu, I still don’t think this problem is 0.28-specific.)

Just an FYI, but I just booted a system with MATE 1.28.2 and the F1 key opened help as I expected; alas it didn't offer me anything useful in regards MATE help (possibly fitting what @tkn offered earlier), but it worked perfectly for me.

I didn't try on a Ubuntu MATE resolute system as prior references people seeking help weren't using Ubuntu, but actually booted a Debian system & logged in with a MATE session.

I suspect the issue isn't related to the MATE desktop either (it's working for me), but is specific to your installs (Debian bookworm and whatever the Debian repositories the Sparky install is using as they use Debian binaries for the MATE desktop as I understand it), and we don't support Debian here (even if the MATE desktop is on-topic).

FYI: With the help screen open; I could explore & view things, but it opened with a "documentation not found" error initially, which could be what your black screen is trying to say; alas I wasn't getting much MATE specific pages that I was searching for (many pages viewable related to other stuff I had installed).. but it opened for me on my install.
