Mate panel icons not showing

Hello. I just got a new computer, installed a fresh copy of Mate Desktop but the icons in the panel are not showing like they should. Here's how they looked on my old computer and on the new... (see screenshot) What could be the problem?

If it was me, I guess I would probably do the following:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-mate-icon-themes

sudo apt-get purge ubuntu-mate-icon-themes

sudo apt-get autoremove

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-icon-themes

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

sudo reboot

Hi
Did you install MATE Desktop (on top of regular Ubuntu or Debian) or Ubuntu MATE ?

There is one other thing. I tested my advice out and found that when I removed the Ubuntu Mate icon themes, it removed the Ubuntu Mate desktop themes as well. So, you will need to reinstall them too.

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-themes

Suggest you try this.

Right-click on any one of the funky icons and select to look at Properties. Next left-click on the icon that shows up in the properties dialog. This (in my experience) lets you change where the icon is coming from. It may be that the icons are now in different locations but the existing locations in your home directory specify the old locations.
