Hello my friends,
I was wondering what you guys are using for a media player (hidpi support). i’m using mate 18.04 b2, and i0m loving my retina screen eheh. Problem is… i can no longer use clementine :(. Super tiny. Anyway, i have a vast collection of mp3 and i’m very picky with a media player.
It has to organize my collection by artist-year-album. Clementine was perfect for that. Any alternatives?
I heard a lot of hype for the latest Amarok release, but i don’t want to download half of KDE desktop just for an mp3 player, so…
I mostly use Quod Libet, and I’ve also used Cantata recently.
Quod Libet means “as you like it” in Latin, and as that sounds, it is very configurable with settings and plugins. Cantata is an MPD client, so you need to have MPD installed, but it will set up a single-user instance, and once you do that you forget about it.
I haven’t tried hidpi personally, but they use modern toolkits (GTK+ 3 and Qt 5 respectively) and have active developers, so I think they have support.
As for sorting, I know Cantata can do artist → year → album and I think Quod Libet can depending on the view mode you choose. (I personally “solved” this for me a long time ago by adding the year to the beginning of my music’s album tags, so I can get by with artist → album sorting.)
