The problem: I need some help troubleshooting a monitor I got used off of craigslist. It actually works perfectly when I boot into Windows, and even as I’m booting it works from grub (once, that is. I have tried and failed to reproduce this). But once UbuntuMATE has loaded, the image is garbled, flickering, and staticy.
What I’ve done so far: MATE detects the monitor and lets me adjust it’s settings, so I did make sure that the resolution was set to the monitor’s native 1920 x 1200 resolution, as well as try every other setting in Monitor Preferences that it would let me. I’ve noticed that setting the resolution to 1680 x 1050 gives an image that’s poor, but at least not flickering. Also, changing window managers has no effect. I have also searched for drivers online, but found only windows drivers.
I do have this information about the monitor: the newegg listing and the user manual . I’m on a ThinkPad T460p. I do have the NVIDIA graphics card in it, but I don’t think Ubuntu is using that, which doesn’t actually bother me (unless that fact is related to this problem). I have HDMIed to other displays successfully.
I will see if I can share pictures to show what’s going on.
Thank you for any help!

Update: It also works as a monitor for my Raspberry Pi running PIXEL. I will see if I can get a RPi UbuntuMATE setup going to see if the issue is common to MATE somehow.
Update 2 (6/17/2017): I’ve done a day’s work in Windows instead of MATE to make use of the display. It’s very pretty.
