Music players with a true random play mode?

Thanks for the Strawberry tip. I use Rhythmbox because of the radio and podcast feature... I will check it out.

I still use Clementine, which Strawberry is based off of. I know it is no longer under development, but I love it. Still you have to add the library, which it will search for and add for you. It has a shuffle mode, which I think is a random play mode. My favorites play list is 2000 songs and it has no trouble with that.

Strawberry has to use a work-a-round to add radio stations, which requires maintaining a text file. Not that big of a deal, but they also show up in a playlist and look like an album rather than a radio station.

IDK... with all the robust plugins and my passion for listening to radio stations all over the world, I have not been able to find anything better than Rhythmbox.

I am not sure why it is given such a hard time. I can rip CDs in FLAC, listen to podcasts, listen to the radio complete with album covers and even lyrics. I can record mp3s right off of whatever radio station I am listening too and all of this is piped through my vintage Denon home stereo and Bowers and Wilkens speakers.

Thanks for all the suggestions tho... I have enjoyed checking all these other players out. Sorry for hijacking the thread. :innocent:

Using Clementine since 2016 (now on Ubuntu Mate 24.04.1 - daily driver - and Linux Mint Wilma - office PC -). Works! Does also rip CDs based on preferences.

For radio stations look for the links on https://www.liveradio.ie/ (there is no requirement to maintain a text file - Strawberry requires it and some other workarounds which made me drop it!)

Although I do have streamtuner2 installed, I mostly use Jamendo Radio (in browser) for the one or two times a year that I listen to radio.

There are a lot of online music streaming sites I use these two:

https://streema.com/.

I also use https://onlineradiobox.com/ which gives you the playlist, songs played and artist of the streams on radiovolna.

Blues is my favorite:

So this allows true random play, of a directory tree, after not a lot of effort?

I can't say for sure, It randomly plays the play list, so I guess it would if every song in your library was on your play list, but it does play random enough it sometimes plays the same songs in a session before playing non played songs. I have 2300 songs on my main playlist.
