the package itself is network-manager-gnome
, you can invoke the editor window with nm-connection-editor
command. You may want to check manpages.

thanks for that, it seems the nm-connection-editor is not easily available from settings on ubuntu gnome install. have to run from command line. thanks for the info.
You're welcome @Ameeno. You still may use familiar nm-applet
in gnome shell panel as a separate applet. You'll probably have to add it to autostart then.
