No network upon boot

When I start up Raspberry Pi 2 with Ubuntu Mate 15.04 installed, I have no network connection until I log in. This is happening both for wired network and a wireless USB dongle. As soon as I log in, everything starts working. What’s wrong?

By the way, thanks a lot guys for this Ubuntu version, it’s really impressive what one can do with such a tiny device as Raspberry Pi.

Is your USB wifi supported by Linux?

Yes, USB WiFi is supported: as soon as I log in, network works.

UPDATE: Wired network works before log in, that was my error that initially prevented it. Only WiFi dongle is not operating.

So this is solved now?

No, the wireless dongle fails to connect until I log in to the system.
