Any one care to hazard a guess on why my battery icon has gone funny and obviously the authentication key icon thing has as well. Cheers in advance for any help 
Edit: probably should have added all i did was upgrade from 16.04. to 16.10
Hi wutwut; welcome to our forums
This could be a problem with the theme your running. Mate 16.04 used gtk2/3 and 16.10 uses gtk3 only. So try another theme. Mate-tweak can be used to change the panel layout or go to “Appearance” GUI in the main menu and change the theme.

I tried a number of different themes etc but as you can see below the authentication keys icon still goes funny, also I'm not 100% sure but the shut down menu looks a bit squashed to me but that could just be me?, i thought maybe something might have gone bad with the upgrade so i did a fresh install via usb and I'm still getting the same issue
