Ppa, gtk, annd more

Dear Friends,

SInce I have had miserable luck with 16.04 and wily is working fine, other than the inability to disable the touchpad while typing, I shall attempt to exercise the better part of valour by asking if:

a: the use of the wily ppa associated with 1.12, as used in the dev edition of 16.10 is relatively safe to install
b: the 1.14 ppa by Mr Fernyhough is built entirely against gtk3, as the version in Manjaro is, or still against gtk2 versions as announced elsewhere in the fora here, to wit, what ppa gives what version built against what libs… My blind faith is that Yorkshire bluntness will save me from the miniscule world of no scaling on my uhd screen.

Obviously, emailing a busy dev is not something I would wish to do.

It would appear that somehow I may get the best of all worlds if I keep the current install until 16.10, and use mate if the touchpad issue is better. This is no means a criticism of Unity, just a preference.

Still cannot see why disable touchpad works in Mate, both in 16.04 and 16.10 and not in Unity, as there seems to be no major difference in modules loaded.

So, install a, b, or c or nothing?

Thanks for reading this.

All good wishes,

M
