Preventing Firefox Autoplay

I was hoping someone knew how to prevent FF autoplay. Not muting autoplay or blocking all video, just preventing the autoplay of the video. I would prefer i a video only plays if the user clicks on the video. It seems every time an autoplay configuration is made to prevent autoplay, mozilla does something else to re-enable autoplay. I see there are a few extensions that prevent autoplay, I would like to avoid more extensions if possible. My FF autoplay settings are as follows:

when I go to YouTube, I have autoplay off (top right) so the video will not play unless I click play. Is that what you're looking for? using FF 66.0.2

I typically don't have an issue with YouTube. It is sites like ghacks and gizmodo. The video always pops up playing, although muted. And when you scroll down the page, the video follows the scroll while still streaming along.

In my case, since I use a firefox alternative, Basilisk, I eliminate autoplay in an about:config setting - media.autoplay.enabled user set boolean false . Your mileage may vary.

If I were in your shoes, I'd bookmark the offending sites and spend some time playing around with your settings until you have things squared away. This issue would probably be better addressed in a Mozilla forum.

Good luck jaybo.

Thanks. I will try adding the setting. BTW I did try a Mozilla forum first, they seemed to get defensive protecting autoplay. Most seem to believe muting autoplay is sufficient. Others don't understand why autoplay is offensive.
