I have a problem with LibreOffice crashing when I have Writer and Calc open. I tried upgrading to the latest version of LibreOffice but it didn’t fix it.
I haven’t had much response from the LibreOffice forum and have comments from Ubuntu MATE that suggest it is LibreOffice’s problem. Passing the buck? I would suggest that it might be a Ubuntu MATE problem because I have not had this problem on other distributions.
It’s important to me if noone else, as I am finding it almost unusable. I have already had to install Mint on a friend’s computer because I couldn’t recommend Ubuntu MATE/LibreOffice.
Alternatively is there a good office software alternative I could use? Not Abiword - that wrecked the first file I tried it on!
I’ve got them both open at the monent and everything seems okay so far about 10 minutes in. I would suggest reinstalling libre office, but i have a feeling you can’t uninstall them without taking the whole desktop down. Maybe you can reinstall libre office over the top of the existing? I am not sure, I guess what I am suggesting is the the problem may be either a corrupted install on your particular machine of either libre office or of Mate.
I too cannot reproduce the problem. The version of LibreOffice is 4.2.7.2 on Ubuntu MATE 14.04 and there are no stability issues. Can you try to install with a fresh copy of the ISO and check if the problem persists?
It’s still doing it. Could it be related to a mod suggested by someone on your original “tips & tricks” site? I had a problem with no horizontal slider in Calc so it was suggested that I should edit a style* file to put it on. If so, is there a way of deleting any personal style files?
(*I can’t remember the proper name and can’t find the original page)
Hi Chris. The tip you describe, though it could have come from this forum, I don’t remember reading and I have been here since the forum opened and have, as far as I know read every thread. Are you certain you read it here?
If you can locate the tip in question on this forum, then point me to it and i will implement the tip on my own installation. This won’t be problem for me as I have a Clonezilla image and so if it screws my installation up, I can just re-write with the clone.
I have found the other “tips & tricks” site, it is Google Community Ubuntu MATE, search for
“If you find that the sheet tabs are tiny” to find the post that suggested editing a theme.
I don’t think that the LibreOffice meta package is installed by default, if you look in Synaptic for “libreoffice”, mark it for install if it isn’t already installed, or use the terminal command below!.
