Problems when seeking system update

Used sudo apt-get update. This is the message I received after trying to get system updates.

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I’ve been using terminal for updates because I am not receiving the latest updates due to failure to down, load repository updates.

Hello

Open a terminal and enter:

inxi -Sr

and please post the output

Hello v3xx, Thank you for trying to help. I tried the command line code you had given me then I restarted my computer. But again, the same error message appeared when I tried to check on system updates as stated below:

W:The repository 'cdrom://Ubuntu-MATE 16.04.2 LTS _Xenial Xerus_ - Release amd64 (20170215) xenial Release' does not have a Release file., W:Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use., W:See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details., W:http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/dists/lsb3.2/Release.gpg: Signature by key F8897B6F00075648E248B7EC24CBF5474CFD1E2F uses weak digest algorithm (SHA1), E:Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu-MATE 16.04.2 LTS _Xenial Xerus_ - Release amd64 (20170215)/dists/xenial/main/binary-amd64/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

This message has appeared everytime I have tried for updates since I first installed Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 64-bit.

Best regards,

Open up your software sources (in the main menu) and uncheck CD/DVD ROM.

@anon42388993’s advice should do it, but it’s weird that this happened in the first place.
Did you use a non-standard installation method?
Did something weird happen during the installation?

Hello v3xx , I think the problem is resolved. I had taken the check mark off of code and also removed the A software updater, I utilize Ubuntu Software updater. so I no longer het that message at all.

I think I’ve cured the problem with v3xx advice and I also got rid of the A software updater and I only use the Software Udater and I don’t get that message.

Hi wolfman, I think I’ve cured the problem. I took v3xx advice, but I removed the A software updater in the Welcome area and I use Ubuntu Software updater for my updates now.

When seeking system updates utilizing command line this is the error message I receive:

E: Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu-MATE 16.04.2 LTS Xenial Xerus - Release amd64 (20170215)/dists/xenial/main/binary-amd64/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Check your /etc/apt/sources.list file. You most likely have a line there starting with

deb cdrom:

Comment that out and run apt-get update again.

@buntubarry, this is the second time you report this issue so I’ve merged the two posts in the new topic into this one.
I’m surprised you’re still experiencing this issue, did you perform a new install?

Yes I did but I did not experience any difficulties at first.

Hello v3xx, I took your advice listed below and here was my answer: W: http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/dists/lsb3.2/Release.gpg: Signature by key F8897B6F00075648E248B7EC24CBF5474CFD1E2F uses weak digest algorithm (SHA1)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I’m a bit confused too. Thought we solved this. Anyhow please post the output of:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

Thanks

Hello v3.xx, This is the printout I received. Maybe I should get another Ubuntu Mate dowload and start again from scratch. I had no idea that Ubuntu did not support this Ubuntu Mate. buntumatebp@pluto:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list
