~/Desktop$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS \n \l

~/Desktop$ uname -a

Laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad E470
Mini PC - Intel® NUC Kit DC3217IYE
PC - Lenovo ThinkCentre M710s

It would be more useful if you open your system monitor and upload a screenshot after switching to system or install neofetch or screenfetch and upload the terminal output.

Have you installed any proprietary drivers or are you using the open source ones?
The thinkpad E470 has an option without a dedicated video card (Intel HD 620 Graphics) or with an Nvidia video card (Nvidia Geforce GTX 940 MX, I think)

@Gabriel_Natavala ok Please do this Open the Welcome app -> Getting started -> System Specifications -> select tab “Detailed” -> press “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste with ctrl+v or right click “Paste” here .

Okay. So, I think the problem you are experiencing may be as a consequence of not running a compositor. To have Compton compositor running, see the instructions below:

  1. On the main menu, navigate to "system/preferences/look and feel/mate tweak"

  2. Click on the "Windows" tab on the left hand side of the "Mate Tweak" GUI and, at the bottom, you will see an option called "Window manager". From the drop down list, change this to "Marco (Compton GPU compositor)". See below:

  1. Close Mate Tweak.

Now open an application such as a web-browser and scroll down the page. You should hopefully find the screen tearing is gone.
