Quicker launching from MATE-Menu search

Is there updated code for 16.04 beta 1? Thanks!

You should have a bitbucket account . Then fork from the repo of mate-menu . Edit the code in your fork push it to your repo and then make a pull request to the main repo . This should do it .

I tested the suggested code, it doesn’t change the behaviour.

I just installed Ubuntu Mate 16.04 Beta1 LTS on my laptop, and this missing feature (=simply launching the program by pressing enter when the top result is the one I want) is the one really annoying thing about it for me (too)…

at the moment it seems you have to either get to the result list by using a lot of [tab] or using the mouse - or you have to write the complete command - or you have to have run the software previously through this dialog so that autocomplete kicks in.

I have just been working on MATE Menu and added quick launching. As you search for an application, pressing Enter will launch the current best match. It is available in MATE Menu 5.6.9 which should feature in Ubuntu MATE 16.04 Beta 2.

Just tried it (via the ubuntu-mate-dev/xenial-mate ppa) and it works well.

Edit: I’d honestly never really tried mate-menu because the lack of quick launching turned me off. I didn’t know it could do things like web/wikipedia/dictionary search. If it did arithmetic I wouldn’t need a launcher like albert at all!

Wow, thanks for doing that, Wimpy. Like others have said here, it’s literally the only majo feature I felt this fantastic distro was lacking. I’ll have to give the beta a try.

I just tried it in Ubuntu MATE 16.04 beta 2 with mate-menu 5.6.9-1 and Run Application dialog doesn’t work by pressing Enter key - I have to select an entry from the list. Do I need to upgrade it?
