I accidentally removed some wallpapers (came by default) from the appearance settings by clicking the remove button.
How can I restore them back?
They haven’t been deleted, just removed from your selection pool - you can add them back. Backgrounds are generally stored in /usr/share/backgrounds/. Look in the mate, cosmos, ubuntu-mate-xenial, and ubuntu-mate-common folders to add them back.
