Would it be possible to include an option to completely disable the Touchpad on laptops ? It would make life SO much easier for those of us on smaller laptop keyboards!
Thank you.

Thank you.
A neat feature I found out about recently... touchpad-indicator ... an indicator to illustrate and control whether your touchpad is on or off!!
The command synclient TouchpadOff=1
disables the touchpad. Equating to 0 re-enables it.
This can be used in a Caja action script to toggle between the two modes.
Thank you,Robsteady! That works like a charm…apparently the app has been updated since the web article - once installed I had an icon of a mouse on the toolbar and clicking that gives you the option to Disable. Sweet!
I think this could be added to MATE Tweak.
That would be great. The method suggested by @Robsteady which involves an indicator applet is also a good alternative.
Has this fallen through the cracks ? Or have the new utilities now included with MATE made this irrelevant ?
What I was hoping for is something akin to the way elementary OS has a specific software switch to disable the laptop touchpad completely when one is using a wireless keyboard or a smaller keyboard layout common to some laptops ?
I’ve added it to my work sheet for 15.10
