Rookie mistake (formatted /dev/ubuntu-vg/root)

Hi all,

So I made a rookie mistake when formatting a usb drive. I thought I formatted /dev/ubuntu-vg/root but after rebooting my computer is said that I did not have any bootable media.I thought that maybe it was just the boot partition so I google on how to recover grub. I was able to use boot-repair after I booted from a live image. I then was able to select advanced options and boot from an older kernel. My question is what happened. Why can’t I boot from the default first kernel? Now that I can start my computer using an older kernel it is working fine but every time i restart I need to select advanced options and choose a different kernel. Is there a way to correct this? Maybe remove the image that is not loading and reinstall that kernel so that I am up to date?

Any suggestions or if you need any further info from me please let me know. I wouldn’t say I am a linux noob but this is above my pay grade.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

HI Daniel,

you could boot into the 2nd option and open Synaptic and find the latest kernel packages for the last kernel and remove them!.

MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALL FOR THE SAME KERNEL OR YOU WILL CRIPPLE YOUR PC!.

You can also re-install/re-compile the last kernel!:
