RPi 2: Some apps not working after lockup

Hi,

First of all, let me say how incredible this distro is on a Raspberry Pi 2. The RPi foundation should seriously consider making this the “default” distribution, it’s so much simpler and nicer to look at than Raspbian.

I’ve been running it for a few days, I’ve got my Pi slightly overclocked and its been running smooth as butter. But I did experience a lockup recently (probably due to my overclock). The system completely stopped responding and I had to physically unplug it from the wall. Since then, FireFox will not start, I get a dialog saying there was an unknown error every time I try to launch it. Also, the Ubuntu Software Updater will not start either. I noticed this when trying to go in and uninstall/re-install FireFox. I get a similar message and the option to try and restart it, which doesn’t appear to do anything.

I need to completely remove and reinstall these apps. Is there something I can do to fix them from the terminal, or do I need to re-flash the entire system?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

GNU/Linux is can be sensitive to sudden power-offs, due to how the kernel handles files in memory before writing them to disk, so there could be a chance parts of the file system got corrupted.

If it’s just your user profile that might be corrupt, you could try running these apps as a new user or a guest account, otherwise, I’d say your best bet is to re-flash the entire card to be safe.

Know what? That was an awesome idea.

Creating a new user not only fixed Firefox and Software Updater, it ALSO somehow fixed them back in my main account as well! So I’m all good now. Thanks! :grinning:
