I spent the last 2 days trying to figure out why my wifi dongle on my RPI2 kept cutting out.
After making sure it was not the power management, many modifications to scripts, cron job to ping the router every minute and other potential fixed on the forums, I came to realize it was not the wifi dongle, but the wifi router.
The dead give away was, that even unplugging and rebooting didn’t bring back the wifi connection back most of the time.
Also, I could see other routers in the area but not mine, and when I could see mine, I couldn’t connect to it.
It turns out, that a small change in the wifi router setup fixed it. I want to post here so that others will not spend 2 days and waste their time for such a small fix.
The “Channel bandwidth” in the router’s wifi setup was set to 40 MHz, and when I changed it to 20 MHz, the problem went away. So I tried the 20/40 MHz, and it also worked perfectly. So I left it at that.
It was that simple!
I’ve tried it with Raspbian, Ubuntu mate 15.10 and Jessie distribution and it works on all of them now.
Hope this will help some one else.
