Running MATE on a late 2009 MacBook?

So, I found my Mom's old white MacBook and found out it was from late 2009 (Not the Pro). I looked at the specs and it's not the greatest, so I was wondering if I can install Ubuntu MATE on it.

  • Which version of Ubuntu MATE can I install on it? (Hopefully 20.10 or newer)
  • Is this computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
  • What architecture is it?
  • Even with older components, is it still secure to use a more recent Operating System on an older computer?
  • Can most modern Bluetooth devices connect to Bluetooth 2.1?

I believe these are the specifications here: https://support.apple.com/kb/sp579?locale=en_US

Looks to be a 64-bit chip:

Thank you! So looks like I can install the latest Ubuntu MATE on this computer! I'll give this a try!

With only 2GB of RAM it might run a little slowly for your liking, but if everything else works it might be worth investing in a RAM upgrade to the maximum 4GB.

Yeah. I'll save up and let my Dad add the RAM, I don't trust myself to install it myself lol
