School usage of Ubuntu Mate

Hi All,

At the school I work at we have a largish number of netbooks. As you can imagine, these are struggling away running Windows 7. What I would like to do is the following, but, do you have any advice on this?

  1. Install Ubuntu Mate (of course)
  2. Bind to Windows domain to allow domain logins
  3. Allow access to home folders and possibly shared drives too
  4. Use PXE boot to install Ubuntu Mate on these netbooks and automate a domain bind
  5. set the panel layout for each user to redmond

Thanks in advance!

I would download a fresh copy of the latest LTS version of Ubuntu Mate and make my own version using something like Ubuntu Builder, then create my own ISO complete with all the features I want including Samba for all my networking needs:

Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot for the ideas and links. I will have a look when I get chance and report back my findings.
