Screensaver not showing, just blank screen

This is on my laptop and my desktop with Ubuntu MATE 16.04; even though rss-glx is installed and Flux (which I love to watch) is selected, the screen just turns black with no screensaver showing. On 15.10, I could run this:

#! /bin/bash
xset -dpms
xset s off

but it doesn’t appear to work in 16.04. All I could find here was how to disable the screensaver, which is hardly what I want to do.

Any advice?

Hi Fred

I’m running 16.04 and just installed rss-glx, then clicked on Flux and it worked.

Hi,

have you tried “xscreensaver”?:

sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data-extra

This is interesting. I changed my desktop from Marco to Compiz and the screensaver works. No compiz effects at all, but that problem was at least fixed.
