Set MATE as default on installed Ubuntu

Hi, I installed MATE in Ubuntu and I prefer it to Unity, but how do I make it the default desktop environment? I want it to auto login to mate (with no password).

I tried editing /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/d50-ubuntu.conf I wrote user-session=mate but it still enters Unity upon system start up.

At the login screen, on the top panel at the right hand end, it should have a drop down list allowing you to choose which desktop to login with (it’s sometimes a drop down list next to the login dialog box). Having once logged in to that desktop, it should remain with that as the default desktop until you choose a different one at login.
