I added the text The Last Stand to the attached pic.
However, part of the top of the image is chopped off.
Any way to get the whole image to show?
Never mind, I just moved panel to the bottom.
I was going to say, make the top panel (or any panel) transparent.
I like to always like to have time and date showing.
with a transparent panel you can still see icons, date time, applications menu and so..., and your bg image will be seen as full 
right click on the top panel/properties then tab /background select "solid color" and you can choose the level of transparency with the slider Style.
it's the background only which will become transparent, NOT the menu and icons.
