I'm one of the MATE upstream maintainers. There are not many of us left, but we're active and devoted to continue keeping MATE alive, update dependencies, add new features, etc.
We welcome contributions from the community and love it when folks test patches, suggest fixes for bugs, new feature ideas, or just plain hang out in GitHub. It all matters and makes the project worthwhile.
