Software Boutique fails to stock with software / launch properly

System:-
Panasonic CF-19 Intel Core Duo CPU U2400 @1.06Ghz x2
Memory 2.5Gib
Release 18.04.1 (Bionic Beaver) 32bit
Kernal Linux 4.15.0 -36 -generic i686
MATE 1.20.1

I installed mate to my old toughbook and was pleasantly surprised it worked.
I have been using it for a few weeks without major issues, however recently the Software Boutique will start but fails to stock with software, have tried updates and a re-install to no effect.
Is this a known issue and is there a solution?
I would appreciate any help.

machmanl,

It is a snap package. From the terminal enter the command below.

snap install --classic software-boutique

Enter password when you see the authentication screen and reboot after install.

snap install --classic software-boutique
error: snap “software-boutique\u200b” not found

Try snap install ubuntu-mate-welcome --classic

snap install ubuntu-mate-welcome --classic
snap “ubuntu-mate-welcome” is already installed, see ‘snap help refresh’

Hi everyone that replied to my request for help, thank you all for responding, it is great to see there are still people with integrity and a sense of community.
I did try a few of your suggestions which I found in other posts also and a number of other things, unfortunately I was under a lot of time pressure and so forced to cut my losses and abandon UM for the time being with much regret.
I chose UM because it offered a 32bit version and a viable alternative to W10.
I think the issues I had are probably due mainly to my hardware! However it did run well despite this.
Thanks again and I wish UM every success.

I don’t think it is a hardware issue, but more of a failed install. At this point, I would try to remove it completely by running this command:

snap remove ubuntu-mate-welcome --classic

Once you have removed it, try the install command again and see if it installs it back correctly:
snap install ubuntu-mate-welcome --classic
