[SOLVED] Replace screen saver

Can i replace mate-screensaver to xscreensaver? please let me know thanks.

Hi Jose,

I wouldn’t remove mate-screensaver but there should be nothing to stop you installing and using xscreensaver!.

Yes, you can install xscreensaver. I use it with Ubuntu MATE. I remove MATE screensaver from the startup applications - no need to uninstall it. And of course, you need to be sure xscreensaver is added to the startup applications.

OK, and i did not remove mate-screensaver, so uncheck on start up appilcation, so i hope i did correct, here's picture.

Updated, reboot after that added to starup program, and it worked! thanks!

now i am in love with mate!!!

cheer up!

I would edit the command to xscreensaver -no-splash
Otherwise, you may get the little xscreensaver splash screen on login when it starts up.
Be sure to install all the extra screensavers which are extra packages:

xscreensaver-data-extra
xscreensaver-gl
xscreensaver-gl-extra
rss-glx

rss-glx requires some extra steps, and contains some of the best
screensavers. After installing it, read the file
/usr/share/doc/rss-glx/README.xscreensaver to get them to work.
