(Solved) Software updater not requiring password

Just noticed that the software updater dosn’t ask for password before fetching the updates, but if I use Synaptic it does ask for the password. I have looked for a setting to ensure password is requested , but i cant find anything.
Can anybody point me in the right direction , thanks

Software Updater does not require a password if the user is in the admin group and the updater is only updating already installed software. Synaptic package manager requires an admin password to start in all cases.

Note: A new kernel is considered a new package, not replacing what is already there. So if a kernel is involved in the updates, you would need the password even in Software Updater.

Thanks for the that. So its not viewed as a security risk then. I thought you always had to provide a password to do updates
