Hi!
Randomly UM seems to close by itself.
It starts with the desktop icons disappearing (see image)
then the menu gets only into a serie of blanck squares
Then Firefox and Thunderbird stall. Then everything stall.
If doing nothing I subsequently get a black screen.
If I go system-shutdown, I get the small window but with blank squares also.
In either case I have to force a shutdown with the power button and restart.
what version are you on and what processor, I had some lockups on my laptop on 19.10 that I never figured out, I moved to 20.04 daily and so far so good, though I still occasionally have some mouse issues but I think its unrelated
Mine were on amd so Idk maybe try upgrading to 20.04 see if it goes away, however your system appears to slowly freeze vs the lockups on my system, which now that I think about it seems more like an ongoing harddrive failure as was already suggested, or possibly a ram failure, either way I would make sure everything is backed up to a separate disk before doing anything
Know what you mean, but couldn't find it
Only thing I see is when booting there seem to be a "buffer error" that shows into the scrolling text (too fast to read)
The 'HP Spectre' laptop itself is Intel Core I5 7th gen; but I've been running UM on a side USB, booting from the USB drive. I shall then consider reinstalling (wiping out windoze) on the laptop itself. Copy and install my whole profile and preferences is something I never did.
If your running from USB that may be the reason perhaps run a SMART test on it from disks that will sometimes catch things, that and USB drives do fail more commonly, I've had at least one maybe two fail on me
Just observation here, no testing. It may have nothing to do with it, though.
But it do seem to happen when the machine is on standby, i.e. not in use for a while.
When active it only happened once and after 30 mins away from the computer.
Power settings is to never put to sleep when on AC
