Sound volume indicator and touchpad issues/doubts

Hi all, I have been trying MATE (Ubuntu Mate 18.04), really like it, but these two issues are preventing me from making the switch from KDE (long time KDE user):

  1. Is there a way to disable/enable the laptop touchpad when an external mouse is plugged in? Plasma has an option for this, Gnome has it (hidden under GSettings), but in MATE I can’t find anything related.

  2. I have tried the Ubuntu MATE live USB, and also installed the MATE flavour in one Kubuntu machine. In both, opening the sound volume indicator and using the mouse scroll wheel to raise the volume, lowers it instead. Using the scroll wheel to lower it, raises it instead. It’s the inverse of what should happen (scroll up should raise, scroll down should lower). Anyone knows how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

as for the mouse in the sound indicator I think that is the default behavior but I don’t why

On my computer the sound indicator is up = wheel up, and down = wheel down
For the touch-pad go to mouse preferences (system/control center) click on the touch-pad tab you have some options there, you might try to un-check “natural scrolling” maybe it will affect your mouse wheel up and down for the sound (i don’t have my laptop here with me to check it out)
