What do you think of Speech Note?
I do not much care for Snap packages and prefer .deb versions.
(Maybe .deb versions are going the way of Do-Do birds.)

Just installed the .deb version out of pure curiosity. Looks promising ![]()
Could you tell me where I can download the .deb version?
(I could not find it.)
Thanks.
you need to install flatpak, then flatpak install flathub net.mkiol.SpeechNote
https://github.com/mkiol/dsnote/releases/download/v4.8.3/dsnote_4.8.3-1+noble_amd64.deb
And I have to confess: it is indeed pretty diffcult to find.
And for future releases, you can see the deb packages listed under the release versions here:
I tried to install the .deb version of Speech Note and I got this.
I looked on $Ubuntu and it did not find anything.
Dependency is not satisfiable: libarchive13t64
Make sure you are running Ubuntu-MATE 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat
then:
sudo apt install libarchive13t64
I have version 22.04.
Then you're probably out of luck. The deb file is only for noble and plucky, not for jammy. You can try though.
In my opinion it is a common mistake of developers to compile only against the latest libraries. It really narrows down the userbase.
I have been using Speechnote for about a year and highly recommend it. I previously used Dragon which was a pain because it would only accept one voice and only worked on Windows. And in my experience its accuracy wasn’t nearly as high as advertised (less than 90%) despite training it with my voice for years. Speechnote is actually more accurate too. The only trouble is that it hallucinates. So it frequently adds “thank you” (and sometimes other strange words and phrases) multiple times in the middle of speech. So I have to go through and remove all those but apart from that, I would say Speechnote has more than 90% accuracy and I am very grateful to its developer! Hope that helps ![]()
