Strange behaviour window manager!

Hello everyone!
About a week ago, I noticed a strange behaviour in my menus.

For example:

One or two seconds later:

Again another example:

One or two seconds later:

It occurs more or less when movement is involved ,opening or resize a window ,hovering on drop down menus ,etc. etc.
It looks like a kind of lag.
I don`t have problems in playing videos.
In my quest for troubleshoot this problem, this is what I did so far:

  1. Change window manger:
Marco (No compositor) : No problems with windows, but with tearing on scrolling text In browser.
Marco (Software compositor) No problems with windows, still problems with tearing.
Marco (Compton GPU compositor) My default setting, is the worst... but no tearing
Compiz (Advanced GPU accelerated desktop effects) better than Compton GPU compositor, but still not perfect and no tearing.

  2. Boot on different kernels:
    4.4.0-87 generic
    4.10.0-27 generic

  3. Googled :
I found something about..... X Render , GLX backend and VSync ...but the more I read, the more I realize what I don't know.
Because of the recent updates ,Mesa 17.0.7 was also on my list.

As always I appreciate any advice and support.

I haven’t noticed that. One thing I have noticed with GTK 3 apps is that the window is black for a second before it is rendered. This can be seen with a HDD, but probably not a SSD (too fast). I’m also using AMD graphics.

Your menus look weird. Your wallpaper looks weird. I have no clue what the problem is. Maybe there’s a Gnome in your computer. :smile_cat:

Let’s wait for knowledgeable people… :smile_cat:

I have an idea. Maybe it’s a theming problem? Try to change theme to one of the Ubuntu MATE themes (Ambiant-MATE or Radiant-MATE). Is the problem still there?
