Super key swap on 18.04 Brisk menu

I use Ubuntu Mate on a MacBook Pro and like to swap the left super and control keys with the keyboard preferences so I can use my thumb for key commands like MacOS. It works fine with the Tradtional layout, but I’ve started to like the Contemporary layout lately and neither key works right with Brisk menu when swapped. Is there a reliable way to make this work?

I do the same Super/Control swap, but I personally disable Brisk’s hotkey because I use a different launcher (Albert) instead.

Before I disabled the hotkey, I did have trouble with it: it would still activate using the physical Super key, even though this key was supposed to be set to Control using xkb. But I just enabled it now, and it works for me to set the hotkey to the default ‘Super_L’ and then the physical Control key (set to act as Super) will activate it. I didn’t try logging out and back in, however.
