Sorry if this has come up before. I’m now running 18.04 and getting the 1min 30sec shutdown wait. ‘…session c1 for user xxx…’. This shutdown wait has largely disappeared in Ubuntu 18,04 but still seems to be there in my Mate 18.04 install. I would have thought Ubuntu and the Mate versions would be the same in this respect (i.e. shutting down).
Hi @quarkrad, I see this intermittently in VMs of every version since 16.04, including 18.04, but not in native installs. You can edit this file as root (Open as Administrator):
/etc/systemd/system.conf
And set this line:
#DefaultTimeoutStopSec=90s
to
DefaultTimeoutStopSec=30s
Or whatever you’re comfortable with. This is a band-aide that gets it to a sane value.
Searching here for slow shutdown
does bring up a lot, so you’re not alone, unfortunately.
Every time I have seen this behavior it has been due to a mistake in swap configuration. If you have changed partition of the swap, and not changed the entry in fstab, you will get this behavior every time.
Bill was right - it happens in vm but I’m not seeing it now I’ve installed 18.04 on my Desktop. Many thanks.
