ThinkPad 11e compatability

Just bought an ThinkPad 11e for general online use. Here are the basics on the machine, need to know if Ubuntu Mate is my best choice, as win8 in my opinion is the worst that is what it comes with.

Intel M-5Y10c Processor (4m Cache, up to 2.0 GHz)
Windows 8.1 standard 64
Intel graphics Media accelerator HD
8gb PC-3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM memory
11.6 HD WXGA (1366X768) LED backlight w/ 720p HD Camera
Touch pad
128GB SATA 2.5 SSD
Intel dual band wireless-AC 7265, WI-Fi + bluetooth combo
no WWAN support

Is Mate the best choice and will it be plug and play or will set-up be a pain for this machine?

Welcome to the community! Your machine has got lots of horsepower for Ubuntu MATE to really fly on it.

The only possible issue could be the dual band wireless chip, but from a quick search, it should work out of the box on more recent kernels. If you find it doesn’t, there will be a one-off procedure to find and install a driver for it.

Try a live DVD/USB and give it a test run before you commit. Beware that you may need to disable Secure Boot before you can install/boot another non-Windows operating system, if it’s a UEFI system.
