I switched to traditional panel layout and the HUD stopped working. I have set the Super key to open the Brisk search, allowing me to easily launch applications, but on that I was using pantheon. Is there anyway to add the HUD to the traditional layout? For now I'm using alt+F2 to bring up the run box, then typing part of the app I want to launch. I tried changing it to kist the Super key but that won't accept the keystrokes.
Thanks, @ironfoot. I have that option selected and it says default key is "left alt" but that doesn't open the HUD, I wonder what I am missing?
It works as intended on my side. Left Alt launches HUD, Left Super launches Brisk out of the box. Try to revert your keybinding experiments.
What is the output from gsettings get org.mate.hud shortcut
command?
'Alt_L'
The HUD doesn't show up in Keyboard shortcuts and Alt_L doesn't do any thing. How do I reset the shortcut key for the HUD? Thanks again for your help @ironfoot
The shortcut key for your HUD is still Left Alt. My initial guess was that you might have assigned this key for something else.
Is the HUD process running? What's the output from ps aux | grep mate-hud
?
mickee@mickeymouse:~$ ps aux | grep mate-hud
mickee 233726 0.0 0.2 396600 43464 ? Sl 11:07 0:00 mate-hud
mickee 238079 0.0 0.0 9208 2356 pts/1 S+ 12:25 0:00 grep --color=auto mate-hud
Try rebooting your system.
ok, thanks for your help!
Rebooted, still doesn't work. Curious. Like I mentioned, using Pantheon theme when I hit the Super key it searched the brisk menu. I wonder why its not working with the traditional panel theme? Is it still using brisk?
At the moment I have no other ideas about HUD. You had the HUD process running and you had the shortcut set up. If you see HUD crashing again, you may want to write a bugreport.
Traditional layout is not using Brisk menu, it is using "Applications-Places-System" menu.
thanks for your help!
solved with fresh install of UM
