Trying to go headless

hi,

i'm trying to make my U-M 20.04 a headless system. i'm running realVNC server. I can connect perfectly with realvnc client. Problem I`m running into is, if I boot Pi4 without Monitor, I just get a blank screen once connected via realvnc client. What am I doing wrong? i'm also running the client from my iPad.

I`m kind of new with Ubuntu. i can get around this gui slowly but i can figure some things out.
