If the Banana Pi supports u-boot, then I don't see why not. The image I made for the Pi 3 based on Ubuntu 19.04 won't work on the Banana Pi however.

Maybe you can try armbian and add the Mate Desktop to the server version.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have never had any trouble getting Mate onto it, there are images with Mate, and even before that it's just and apt away. I now use it in a headless no-GUI install.

But it is cool that the drivers needed to run on the Pi3 are sufficiently included to get it to run.
