Ubuntu Mate 16.04 won't boot on Raspberry Pi 2

I have extracted the image from the official download of ubuntu mate 16.04, and then used win32diskimager to write the image onto a SanDisk 16gb class 10 sdhc that is formatted into FAT32. But when I inserted the sd card into the raspberry pi 2, it doesn’t boot and my monitor does not recognize a signal (im connecting it with a hdmi cable). The green LED flashes randomly for a while and then it stops (only a faint green light). The chip is a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B V1.1.

Does the Pi 2 work with Raspbian still? if so then the Raspberry is ok?
I’m a fresh newbie but just went though the whole setup with Ubuntu mate and setup with Raspbian. Not fun but it was fun. :sunglasses:

I rebooted and reloaded a few times! My questions for you are, You put the micro SD card in before you apply power? Right?

There is an issue with exfat and ubuntU mate on cards? I used a fat32 format program to format the micro SD card.

My biggest issue was the file I downloaded from a link on the Raspberry pi site was not the right OS.img for raspberry pi. It wasn’t untill I went to the UbuntU site directly I downloaded the right file. How’d that happen? hmmm.

I suggest you express your steps in fairly great detail. You can leave out the parts where you are sipping a Monster drink. ? hmmm.

Well, anyways, good luck!! *pondering

Hey! My ubuntu mate worked after a few reinstalling. I installed the raspbian image into my SD card to test if the SD card was at fault, it worked. Then I installed ubuntu mate again and it magically worked! Yes, I put the SD card into the chip before I power it.
