Hum, that does *not* sound like a bug fix to me. It is a regression. The first thing I do when I install a system is to customize colors, especially the folder window background color. It is a basic and normal feature that every environment I know has (incl. MS Windows).
If I don't find a solution, I will have to stop using MATE.
