Make sure your using a current daily image. I fixed this issue a couple of days ago.

Yep, you have to experiment with these things to see how they work. As of today DMZ-Black is the default, a classic :grinning:

Oh Yeah… This rarely happens in a dev environment. Great news!

It is all great, thank you Martin!

But I have problem with keyboard layout switching (see this post on Ubuntu Community for details).

On previous Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS I can use Ctrl+Shift shortcut for keyboard layout switching without problems, but on 16.04 LTS with HWE, 17.10 and 18.04 LTS I can’t.

Quote from bug 1720364 is below:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install ubuntu-mate-desktop on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with HWE, or 17.10 or 18.04 LTS…
  2. Set-up two keyboard layouts - English and Russian
  3. Set Ctrl+Shift as keyboard layout switcher
  4. Try to use shortcuts starting from Ctrl+Shift:
4.1. Open Firefox, open new tab, go to some site in it, close tab, try to click Ctrl+Shift+T to restore closed tab.
4.2. Open mate-terminal, try to open new tab with Ctrl+Shift+T, or copy (Ctrl+Shift+C), or paste (Ctrl+Shift+V).
4.3. Open pluma, write some text, try to navigate in it with Ctrl+Shift+arrow.

Expected results:
Ctrl+Shift switches keyboard layout, shortcuts starting from Ctrl+Shift+… work normally.

Actual results:
Ctrl+Shift switches keyboard layout, shortcuts starting from Ctrl+Shift+… do not work.

Is it possible to fix this problem before official 18.04 LTS release?

@Norbert_X Please file a bug on Launchpad about this issue.

sounds good very good, I actually was thinking about switching to Korora with Cinnamon as my main distro, keeping UM on older or slower stuff but I do not think I shall now, I am very glad for the progress that the MATE desktop is making, and the different brisk menu? I only wish I could contribute, one thing I would like to see different is the MATE screen savers, perhaps matching more with the Login screen

I already did so. I reported this to launchpad as bug 1720364.
Moments ago it was marked as duplicate of previously reported bug1683383.
Both are really about Xorg bug 865.
Also I have had discussion with @vkareh today on Marco issue 368 tracker at github.

I apologize for the disturbance. Thank you for all your work!
In this GNOMish world MATE DE is the last resort for old-school users

This is brilliant, fantastic! I’m looking forward to migrating from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Unity onto Ubuntu MATE 18.04 for my daily driver machines.

Will the Raspberry Pi images will have a minimal installation option? Assuming that would require a separate image. I think that would be… well… just berries :strawberry: :strawberry: :strawberry:

I love the full screen brisk menu, very nice menu I just want to know how to enable it in other layouts or is that impossible, I also would like to see file search integrated, not like the AM but true file search as well as filesystem path entry like cinnamons menu those, although such things may not be in the goals of the creators of the brisk menu it would be very nice

You can change Brisk to the dash style by running this command in a terminal:

gsettings set com.solus-project.brisk-menu window-type 'dash'

(To get the regular menu change 'dash' to 'classic' or set it to 'automatic' to have to change based on panel position.)

You can also change this setting in dconf Editor by navigating to com → solus-project → brisk-menu and opening window-type.

Just to have a sense of what is out there…
How many of people here already upgraded to 18.04 from previous version and do run their day-to-day activities with it ?

I’m planning on upgrading my main home machine just after the first beta is released.

I upgraded, but there was problems with the boutique, and downgraded to 17.10 - I will also leap forward with the beta release in early April

I upgraded from 17.04 to 17.10 and ran it until about 1.5 months ago when I went to 18.04. It gave me some grief for a couple of weeks so I went back to 17.10. Last week I upgraded again and it seems to be doing better. Guess we’ll see.

I do not use bionic as my daily driver as such on my laptop but it is my main OS on my Desktop, a rather old 32 bitmachine, though I killed my previous bionic installation yesterday I reinstalled from a newer ISO and it gets started pretty much daily
