I forgot a few things:
Indicators by default
Ubuntu MATE 18.04 uses Indicators by default in all layouts. These are the Indicators in Ubuntu that I’ve added MATE support to, not the Ayatana Indicators project I mentioned earlier. This includes patching out some UI elements in mate-power-manager that conflict with Indicator Power. The volume in Indicator Sound can now be over driven, so it is consistent with the MATE sound preferences.
Slick Greeter
Our friends at Ubuntu Budgie have uploaded a new version of Slick Greeter. I’ve updated the configuration accordingly and am pleased to report that Slick Greeter now fades in smoothly, rather than the stuttering we saw in Ubuntu MATE 17.10.
Plymouth
The Ubuntu MATE Plymouth theme (boot logo) is HiDPI aware.
Default settings shared with Debian MATE
I was asked by the Debian MATE team to review their gschema overrides and incorporate as much as I could from Ubuntu MATE. I have done as they asked and much of the Ubuntu MATE defaults are now maintained alongside the Debian defaults, upstream in Debian. I’ll be assisting the Debian MATE team to further improve their default experience for the Buster release.
