Ubuntu Mate 20.04 for Early 2008 macbook

I have a macbook Early 2008 macbook 4,1 with 4GB of ram
Can I use ubuntu mate 20.04 on it
The macbook currently has OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks on it
I have ran gnome ubuntu 20.04 wouldn't boot
I went back to ubuntu 14.04 and it booted but with extreme lag
it was the unity desktop
I ran linux mint 19 worked on it well enough
Do you think Ubuntu Mate 20.04 would work on the macbook

The first thing to check is whether the macbook's processor is 32-bit or 64-bit. I think 2007 is when Apple went 64-bit only, but if yours is 32-bit, then 20.04 will not work. It's 64-bit only. You could try 18.04 if you like. It might be a bit zippier than 14.04.

I have just installed 16.04.6 i386 on an even earlier macbook pro A1150 model. It is updating as I type this.

Having saving this macbook A1150 from landfill i have two queries
1 every time I log in i see thisScreenshot at 2020-06-20 15-29-47

2 the touchpad is set at the slowest speed but moves really quickly at the slightest touch.

Late reply, but you could take a look here:
