Ubuntu Mate 26.04 is working really well

Dear all,
I installed Ubuntu Mate 26.04 on my test machine. It works much better than the previous one, especially the translation of program items. In my case, Dutch.
Thank you for your efforts.
Sincerely, Sjaak

Hi, @sjaak47 and welcome to the Ubuntu MATE Community!

I do use 26.04 on this laptop now.
Pretty much more ‘stable’ then I thought. Even if in ‘development cycle’ I did use for more then a week for regular work - with the large number of updates which are almost daily (which is normal).
And upgrading from 24.04 LTS up to 26.04 was (almost) without any major glitch.
The actual LTS being due for April.
Keeping fingers crossed, but good so far.

p.s. all softwares installed do work except Transmission and Webcamoid - i.e. launching doesn,t complete

Just a reminder ... there is still no word that there will be any exception ... so far ... to approve LTS status for UM 26.04. Deadline for getting that "labelling" or "certification" is long past ... and post-deadline "re-classification" is rarely granted.

Issue has been raised on the main Ubuntu Discourse site:

We can only hope that they succeed in convincing the decision-makers of recognizing the worthiness of the Flavour's current code state and efforts ... AND the merits of granting the LTS status which we are all praying for.

As for the LTS-related saga on our own UM Discourse continues here:

Hoi Sjaak,

Good to hear that 26.04 is such a positive experience.
I think I'm going to upgrade my old T420 to check it out

EDIT: Just upgraded to 26.04 (sudo do-release-upgrade -d) on my old stinkpad T420 and it went flawless. :+1:

Correction to my note of yesterday (here above)
This morning there was quite a sizable update which apparently failed (Nvidia 580 and Kernel 6.19). Got a kernel panic once rebooting (cause Kernel 6.19 install not completed). Rebooted back (from Grub) on 6.18. But TB and web browsers and a few others are not launching…
Maybe a snap issue…since even the App Center (snap) doesn’t launch
Any idea ?

EDIT:
if trying to launch from the terminal, I get:
’’snap-confine has elevated permission and is not confined and should be. Refusing to continue to avoid permission escalation attacks. Please ensure snapd.apparmor is enabled and started’’

I did: systemctl status snapd apparmor and it tells me it is active and running but get a warning that caching is disabled for usr.sbin.sssd

Seems due to a Nvidia 580 dependency issue - but I may be wrong.

I searched a lot and have no idea how to solve this:
’’snap-confine has elevated permission and is not confined and should be. Refusing to continue to avoid permission escalation attacks. Please ensure snapd.apparmor is enabled and started’’

I too will use 26.x on a test machine (VM) until about version 26.04.2. By previous versons ‘point.2’ the bugs that affect me are mostly gone.

I'm a long time Ubuntu Mate non-professional user.
