There was a small discussion on IRC about creating a special edition of Ubuntu MATE for broadcasters. The final product should not be like Ubuntu Studio, which is mainly of Multimedia Producers.
We are looking for applications which should be included. These are my ideas:
For my setup with NTROradio I use most of these every week depending on what I do. Here lately all I’ve done is blog, arrange the playlists and upload songs to the server.
IDJC
Soundconverter
MIXXX(sometimes. I prefer to use IDJC nearly everytime and have Mixxx only as a backup)
Jack
qjackctl
jackrack
Easytag
Ardour3 (Audacity is fine but I’m more used to the fancier stuff)
Filezilla
Inkscape (because it can do a lot of stuff gimp cant.)
Edit
I would also suggest
Airtime
Owncloud
I would suggest those or something similar because after switching between podcasting and doing internet radio since 2006 and moving to linux in 2010 I cant work without them,
@Wimpy have you guys ever looked at IDJC? You dont have to connect to a stream to use it. Its awesome for triggering audio files to play as bumper music, jingles, etc. It will record the into flac, ogg or mp3. Works great to record as you go with out doing editing. Probably best when all hosts are in the same room. But if you are all recording locally and then syncing later it may not work.
If you guys want to broadcast live let me know Ill get you log on cred’s and you can be the first talk show on NTROradio. IDJC hooks to my server flawlessly.
I want to officially throw my hat in the ring for any testing or anything else I can contribute to this!
Who is going to head this up?
Ping me on what I can do.
